Getting to know Melina and Denise (moodyandsanguine)
Where are you from? and a little bit about you

We are Melina and Denise, two best friends in Canada who work well together and started a business. Denise is from Moncton, New Brusnwick, has an English degree, mad jewelry skills and a laugh that can be heard for miles. Melina is from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia and went to art school (painting), loves to sew and has a penchant for dancing and singing badly in public.

How did you decide on your shop name?
The name comes from both of us. Moody is the name of Melina’s grandpa, who was very moody, but oddly supportive of the sewing. Sanguine shows Densie’s love of words, it means both bloody and peaceful.

Why did you start your business?
It was only a matter of time before it occurred to us to work together. We have similar tastes, not the same, but totally the same page.

Do you have anything new you plan on adding to your store?
We are always thinking of what is next. There will be more hair accessories, Melina is working on new bags of her own design, and Denise is whipping up some fun spring/summer-y things as we speak.

What is your favorite thing about being a seller?
Being kitty moms, we love working from home. As we both have part-time jobs, we can work anytime we want. Which is good as we are both night owls.

Do you have a blog, twitter, or facebook page?
You can find our blog at, and our twitter page is at and we have a Facebook fan page too, .

What inspires you to make the items in your shop?
Everything inspires us. Denise says that T.V. shows, movies, photos and of course books have inspired her works. Melina would say people (bags in particular, people think she is creepy on occasion), fashion, Denise’s suggestions and pretty, pretty fabric.
What items in your shop do you most enjoy making and why?
Melina says she loves making her new clutches, and they are soooooo cute. Denise thinks that anything that has a more medieval or renaissance quality about them.
Anything else you would like us to know?
We love what we do, and dream of being able to do this full time one day. One day soon-ish. Doing what we do is awesome, it makes us so happy.
