Homemade Miracle Cure for Diaper Rash!

Brandie’s Homemade Miracle Cure for Diaper Rash!

Having my first baby was the most amazing thing I had ever done in my life. I was in heaven, he was perfect! And then we went home. He would not nurse, he was crying nonstop and it seemed nothing could be done. Along with being colicky he developed horrible diaper rash. It would get so bad that his poor bum would bleed.  I tried Desitin and A&D ointment and Boudreaux Butt Paste and even milk of magnesia. Nothing seemed to work. I went to my pediatrician and she suggested mixing the Desitin, A&D ointment and milk of magnesia together to see what would happen. It was a miracle! I slathered it on as thick as I could and by the next diaper change I could see major improvement.

The key to mixing these three things is getting the right Desitin. The one in the purple tube has the highest amount of zinc oxide and that is what you want.  Just the normal tube of A&D works great and I always get the Philips brand of milk of magnesia, be sure it is not flavored.   If you are not familiar with milk of magnesia it is an antacid and laxative. When it is used on the skin it takes the acidity out of the diaper rash. Use a small container that you are not planning on using for something else and squeeze both tubes of ointment into it. Mixing the milk of magnesia can be a little tricky. Only about 2 tablespoons will mix into it.  Add the milk of magnesia and stir slowly until the mixture is smooth.

When using this miracle paste, as I like to call it, always put it on a dry bum. Letting the baby’s bum air dry also helps with rash. Sunshine is also great.  Another tip I have learned is not using wipes. Even brands that claim not to have alcohol in them usually still do.   Warm wet paper towels work great.

I hope that this concoction works wonders for your baby’s tush!

Very interesting, wish I would’ve know this 5 years ago, Desitin was our go to medicine but actually it was irritating him more than anything else. Thank you so much for sharing this informative post at the Fluster Buster Party. I’m co hosting today, have a great week, Lizy

That is a great recipe! Our kids had really bad diaper rashes at times, this looks like it would have been very soothing for them.

This seems like a very logical treatment- I love that you used the antibacterial properties of A&D with the soothing zinc oxide Desitin.

How funny they work in combination but not separately. It makes sense though since each product really only works in one way. With diaper rash that bad, I’m glad you found relief no matter what it had to be!

This sounds wonderful and soothing. I get these rashes, so I’m going to try it for myself. Everything I have tried doesn’t work very well either and this sounds like a good one.

Sounds interesting, but i will give it a try. Because im tired of us both crying during diaper changes. Do you think Boudreaux’s creme would work instead of Destin, Its the maximum strength kind?
Did you use 2 full tubes with the 2 Tbsp of MOM.

Hey, I am making this right now. My little 20 month old has had a few bouts of bad diaper rash and we are trying everything to make sure it heals fast and doesn’t come back again. I bought the smaller tubes of the A&D and Desitin, so I’m wondering if I should only use maybe 1 TB of the milk of mag?

    Thanks!

Let me just state that I love you and this mixture was a blessing and an absolute miracle I can’t that you enough I went from excruciating screams to I’m fine now mommy within hrs. When I say this is not my first rodeo and I have four all in all and I was like She had nothing wrong then this horrible rash appears after nap her diaper wasn’t even full and we’ve been potty training so she hasn’t had one on all day, we were confused and lost until we found this. We are thinking more of an allegic reaction to something either way this was a miracle cream and I love you and thank you for blessing us with your miracle cream

My 9 month old had a rash so bad it was bleeding and looked like a chemical burn or something! I tried for over a week with baths and Desitin etc. It seemed like it was just getting worse! Someone mentioned milk of magnesia to me, and when I was googling it I came across this blog. I mixed 1-2oz of each A&D and purple Desitin, and 1 tablespoon of the milk of magnesia. Two days later the rash is almost completely healed!! Seriously this is my 5th baby and I had never seen a rash this bad. Thanks!
