Getting to know Shannon (SRHarris)

1. Where are you from and a little about yourself?

Well to start, my name is Shannon, I’m 28 and live in Grand Rapids MI. By day I’m the owner of an art studio for disabled adults and kids (www.hearts4thearts.net) and by night I work as a freelance artist and pet portrait artist (www.eddieandolive.com). A few little things about me are: I’m a vegetarian, I love mint ice cream, I’m terrified of spiders, and I have 3 rescue pets: 2 dogs and a rabbit, all of which I adore.

How did you decide on your shop name?

I’m going to be honest, I wasn’t so creative in that department as you can see. My name is Shannon and I have a studio – ala “Shannon Studios.” It kind of has a nice little ring to it though. 🙂

Why did you start your business?

I originally started it just to sell extra art I had lying around the house after college. After those sold, business started to grow so I started making pieces to sell for the store, thinking possibly this could turn into a fun little side business. It kind of just expanded from there once I learned more on how to utilize etsy.

Do you have anything new you plan on adding to your store?

Over the past year I’ve been creating a lot of custom pet portraits. That in itself has almost turned into a full time job. Eventually I have plans to start another etsy store for pet related items such as organic treats, collars, greeting cards and of course pet portraits.

What is your favorite thing about being a seller?

I love being able to make a living off of what I really enjoy, creating art. I’m very lucky and grateful that I get to do what I do – teach art by day and create art by night. It’s very satisfying.

Do you have a blog, twitter, or facebook page?

What inspires you to make the items in your shop?

I think just the humor and strangeness in life. An odd texture of a tree, a funny looking dog, or a cute and cranky old grandpa – it all inspires me in weird ways.

What items in your shop do you most enjoy making and why?

I really love making custom pet portraits. I love animals, so that already makes it fun for me, but I also enjoy how happy it makes the pet owners when they see there little buddy immortalized forever on canvas. 🙂
