Start early – If you are planning to stay in the neighborhood for a while, you need to establish your home as the hub while your children are still young. If the parents are uncomfortable with that because they do not know you, invite the parent to come over at the same time (maybe to watch a game or have coffee) so that they can become comfortable—after all, if the parent is comfortable, the kid most likely will be as well.
