Crochet Bowl Pattern Review and Giveaway!

Posted on March 29, 2010 / By: Krista 44 Comments

To Do Tuesday is one of my favorite days! I love it because I am able to teach you wonderful reader’s new and interesting things. Today I’m especially happy to say we have the BEST To Do Tuesday yet! That is because for the first time it is going to go along with a giveaway! YAY! Today’s To Do and Giveaway is crocheting! Kendra over at DelightedHands3113 Etsy store is offering one of my wonderful readers a chance to win a crochet pattern of their choice! In the process of setting up this wonderful giveaway I also got the chance to get to know Kendra a little. Here is what I learned…

Where are you from? I live outside a little town called Cedar Springs, about as far north in Kent County, Michigan, as one can get.

Can you tell me a little about yourself? I am blessed with an awesome family who loves to spend time playing, working, hiking, building, gardening, and being silly together. I have a physics degree, play classical guitar in my church’s worship team, and work in a law office. My creative outlets usually involve yarn, or searching it out. I love to reclaim yarn from sweaters, so scouring the local thrift stores is a favorite activity.

How did you decide the name for your shop? It comes from a verse in Proverbs. Chapter 31 describes a noble woman. Verse 13 says “she looks for wool and flax and works with her hands in delight.” Any trip to a yarn shop is delightful!

What made you start your business? My mom introduced me to Etsy last year and I love it! It is full of so many wonderful, talented, friendly people. I am so excited to be in a place where handmade is celebrated and sought out.

Do you have anything new you plan to add to your store? Right now I am focusing on writing patterns. My modular drawer organizer pattern was suggested by a repeat customer; designing patterns based off ideas and suggestions is so much fun! I would like to add some knit fingerless glove patterns this summer, and perhaps some of my reclaimed yarn.

What is your favorite thing about being a seller? Meeting all kinds of wonderful, creative people from all over the world!

Do you have a blog, Twitter, or facebook page? I have not yet entered the realm of blogdom, but you can find me on Ravelry as ThirtyOneThirteen.

How did you learn to crochet? My mom taught me when I was four years old. Actually, her sewing room housed a huge, colorful yarn stash, lots of shiny hooks, a book with step-by-step photos of how to crochet, and a little girl who liked to play on the floor while mommy sewed.

What items do you most enjoy making and why? While I enjoy creating things for myself, I very much love making items I know other people will use and appreciate. Once, an elderly friend gifted me a large quantity of her vintage yarns. As a small gesture of appreciation, I made her a set of flat bottomed bowls. She was touched, and shared that she cherished the crocheted trinket trays her mother-in-law made many years ago. She had never seen anything like them since, and was so grateful for the good memories my bowls evoked. Talk about warm fuzzies! I was glad my little bowls brought her such joy. 🙂

My Thoughts
I grew up in a crafty family. I as well as Kendra learned to crochet at a young age. The difference with me is that I only knew one stitch, the single. So with that being said I was nervous when I received the pattern for me to crochet my own bowl. I printed out the pattern, found my crochet hooks, and picked out my yarn. I am so pleased to say that everything was easy to follow. I thought I would have numerous phone calls to my Grandma asking her for help and I am proud to say that I did it all by myself!! I now have completed 4 bowls and am starting on my 5th!
I know that if I can do it so can you! Kendra made the patterns easy to follow and if you have never crocheted before Kendra was kind enough to think of you as well! At the top of the pattern is a web site that will teach you the stitches she uses in her patterns. How cool is that?

Crocheting these bowls is so fun to me. Crocheted bowls are not something you see every day and I know that they could be used for many purposes. If you love to crochet or have always wanted to learn then these patterns are for you!

I would choose the vase trio because it is just so beautiful and unique. In fact, it would be a great container for crocheted flowers and also a clever storage option for crochet hooks. Thanks for the giveaway!

I would say either the Uber Big Nesting Bowls (looks like a great bowl to store balls of yarn for whatever my current project is as well as keep track of small things throughout my house), or the Petal Nesting Bowls – they are just so sweet looking!

This is perfect. I taught my son to knit 2 years ago, (he has special needs, so it takes awhile to learn things). Now he wants me to teach him crochet. I think he would like the ubber big nesting bowl pattern.
