I am an Art Journal Addict!

Recently I have been trying to focus on connecting to my teenager. She has fallen into the habit of spending her evenings hiding out in her bedroom instead of being out with the family. I understand a teenager needing time away once in awhile but at the same time I am missing her. She used to spend every night out here with her Sister, Dad and I. I am not sure when this new habit started but I have been looking for a way to break it…and I think I finally found it!

If you are an avid reader of my blog then you know that my teenager is an artist. Everything in her life is centered around her art work. Over the past couple of months I have been trying to take time out to do some art journaling with her. It is something that we can do together and it helps us to really bond. That is why I was so excited for these Ellie Claire Art Journals to arrive.

The Art Journal that I opened up was The Illustrated Word. This is a coloring journal and has taken a picture and turned it into an adult coloring page. Then on the next page is lined paper for you to write in. I love this concept because the coloring is relaxing and the lined paper gives me a place to journal about my scripture study. Honestly this book was made for me. Not only is the cover stunning but the artwork inside is beautiful and several of the pictures have scriptures that go alone with the artwork. The lined paper has small writing at the bottom that describes the artwork and were it came from. I love reading about the art from all different time periods and being able to relax and color it as well.

Since this book arrived I have been spending my evenings with my color pencils and my thoughts. Its a great way to wind down for the day and reflect on my study as well as things I need to improve on or areas that I excelled at that day.

The next book that I grabbed out of the box was the Illuminate Your Story Journal. As soon as I cracked the spine I knew that this book would be perfect for my teenager. This Art Journal walks you through each of the letters of the alphabet and teaches you how to draw letters like you would see in ancient writing. My daughter immediately grabbed up this book and started writing her sisters name using the style that she learned from the book.

My daughter (age 13) found the step by step instructions easy to follow and has now drawn the name of every member of our family. I love watching her incorporate these letters into her art work!

The Illuminate Your Story Journal also has lined pages for journaling. My daughter has been using gel pens and she loves how none of her pens are bleeding through the paper or smearing! There is even a pen loop, built in bookmark and a keepsake pocket. She has been carrying this journal with her every where she goes.

The last book that was sent for review is the Faith & Lettering Journal. This is by far mine and my daughters favorite journal! The Faith & Lettering Journal will teach you how to draw fun and beautiful art work inside your Bible. I have always wanted to do this but it is intimidating to me as I am NOT an artist. I love how there is plenty of room to practice the artwork throughout the pages of this book before you go to drawing in your Bible. I also love that there are Pro Tips throughout the book. There is lined paper throughout this Journal as well were you are able to write about take notes and journal about your creative side. I love being able to put a little fun and color into my scriptures and at the same time deepen my connection with Heavenly Father by studying and marking my scriptures. I love learning how to do sermon sketch note taking and I am sure you will love it too!

So why did I write the blurb at the top about my daughter needing to spend more time with her family? Because thanks to these adorable Ellie Claire Art Journals my daughter has been! Each night when we are all in the family room together my daughter has been bringing out her Art Journals and spending time learning and growing. It is so nice to have her out here with her family again and for her and I to be growing not only closer to each other but also closer to God! It’s a win, win!
