Check Into Voluntary Insurance Like Aflac
Last year the unimaginable happened to me. I awoke one morning with a rash down my arms and the most severe pain I had ever had in my life. The pain was so bad I could not walk or bend. It honestly felt like my spine was crushing my insides. Knowing that I did not have any extra money in my account and knowing that we had horrible insurance I decided to put off going to the doctor. What a mistake. A week later I was in even more pain. I could not sleep at night, could not walk, could not breath. I went ahead and went to the doctor who ran a bunch of blood tests. It was awful. On my way home from the doctors office I my daughter who was in the back seat said “Mom what is this rash that I have on my arms?” Knowing that my daughter now had the rash made me freak out. I could not imagine her going through the pain that I had. I rushed her to her doctor who told me she had Fifths Disease.
This was interesting to me. I had never heard of Fifths Disease before and the doctor said that for her it was really not a big deal. Just let her go home and rest. When we got home I called my doctor (we have separate doctors) and asked her if that is what I could have. As it turned out…it was. But lucky me… I got severe complications to go along with my rash. After many blood tests, x-rays and CT Scans the doctor discovered that my internal organs were completely swollen and pressing up against my rib cage and spine. That was what was causing so much pain. Each time I tried to lay down it put more pressure on the organs and my bones. There was not much the doctors could do for this as there is no treatment plans. I just basically had to stick it out. I ended up having this pain for a full 3 months before it finally went away. It was honestly the worst 3 months of my life. It hurt to even be touched.
After the pain of everything I started to receive the bills. I could not believe how much it was for me to get all those blood tests, X-Rays and CT Scans. How was I ever going to get anything paid off without taking out a personal loan? I decided from that moment forward that I was going to put a little more effort into finding the best insurance plan for me and my family. I did not ever want to go through anything financially like that again!
My story was not a fun one and defiantly not something I would ever want to happen to anyone else. That is why I think it is important for you all to know that Fall marks open enrollment season for most U.S. insurance companies. It is a great time for you to review your employer-sponsored benefits and choose which health insurance policies are a fit for you. It is hard living paycheck to paycheck and raising healthcare costs are not helping that situation. In fact did you know that Aflac did a study that showed that more than 55% of millennials waste up to $750 yearly by not fully checking into and understanding their open enrollment. That is why it is so important for everyone to read the fine print and take important factors into account when choosing the best policy for them!
So why should you check into voluntary insurance like Aflac? Truth is, like me, you might not know when a serious illness or disability might happen. Like me it is easier to say “that won’t happen to me” but the truth is…it can! Picking the right insurance can help protect you from high out-of-pocket costs and many of them even pay cash benefits that can be used for groceries, child care, lodging or even parking at the hospital.

I’m so sorry you went through all of those problems with Fifths Disease! That sounds like a total nightmare to deal with and then the bills on top of that? Ugh! You have some very good points about insurance. You never do know what might happen so best to be prepared!
Thanks for all the info. It sure is nice to be covered in unexpected circumstances.
I am familiar with Aflac from my last time working out of the home. I wish that my husband’s work would offer it now.
I’m so excited for open enrollment, so we can change up our insurance. When we started this job we didn’t know enough about any of the insurances, so we just picked one because we only had 2 days to do it. Now we know more and know what type of insurance we need and we are taking advantage of changing it up this time around. Getting the right insurance makes a world of difference once you start getting those bills. We had a number of painful medical bills this year because we didn’t have the right insurance for our family.
Having medical insurance is a must in my mind. It is different in Canada. A lot of our medical testing is covered by our government but there are things that are not covered that insurance would be a benefit.
Oh my gosh – what a scary thing to go through! I would have done the same as you honestly and I’m thankful for Aflac that has been there for us on a few occasions that were needed!
Not having insurance is scary. It’s great that Aflac has so many options for indiviuals and families with voluntary policies. When I wa working 9-5 picking an insurance company was always so stressful, but so limited. Now I have a wide variety of choices.
We’ve had some rough years with medical bills recently. Aflac would have helped us out tremendously during those years.
Having insurance is just a good idea. You never know what might happen.
My husband has Aflac. He really loves it, it can be a lifesaver! It definitely helps!
We have Aflac for my husband which is great! It gives us a much needed piece of mind should something happen.
I was just talking to my daughter about Aflac and other insurance options. Aflac sounds like a great choice for my family.
Medical bills add up so fast it is crazy how expensive tests can be. I will have to look into getting some extra insurance. You never know when you will need it.
What a horrible experience you had. Insurance is so important! We have great insurance but Aflac sounds like another great choice.
Thanks for sharing this great information! Aflac sounds like a wonderful insurance company that was there for you when you needed it!
We’ve been thinking about getting Aflac but my husband still don’t know yet. I’ have to look into it more!
