4 Unique Things to Sell on eBay to Make Extra Money
If you are looking to make extra money, recognize that you don’t have to have a second job that takes you away from your family and only earns you $8 an hour. Indeed, there are many ways you can make extra money from the comfort of your home. Turns out all you need is some ingenuity, a sense of humor, and a willingness to try something new.
We are used to thinking of trash as something we dispose of and pay the garbage company to take away for us, but would you be surprised to learn that you can actually make money from your trash? It is true, and if you aren’t squeamish, you can make money this way, too.
Selling trash is just one way you can net some extra dough. Here are some guidelines for making money from unique things:
1. Look beyond the ordinary. When one person was mindlessly munching on Doritos, he noticed that one of the Doritos was shaped like the pope’s hat. Did he just say, “hhhmm, that is interesting” and keep eating? Nope, he took a picture and put it up for auction. A Dorito. And do you know how much it sold for? Brace yourself. A whopping $1,209 dollars!
2. Have a sense of humor. For an auction for trash such as a Dorito or even old, used dentures to make money, you need to have a sense of humor. Write a funny post, and people will see it and pass it on. If it goes viral, you have a much better chance of making money. ABC News reported that someone bought old dentures at the estate sale of a 94 year old dentist who had repossessed the dentures from a man who didn’t pay. The seller even wrote that they were in gross condition and still had corn on the cob stuck in them, but they sold for $38.99.
3. Sell everything you own. A few years back, a man broke up with his girlfriend and was planning a move across country. He ran an auction for “everything he owned” in the apartment. He ended up getting a bid of nearly $20,000. No telling if what he had in there was worth more or less than $20,000, but he certainly got a fresh start.
4. Sell yourself. Of course, you are not allowed to sell body parts, but some people sell themselves. A dad of 4 put his forehead up for auction. He was willing to let an advertiser put their logo on his forehead for a certain amount of time in return for cold, hard cash. Some people have been crazy enough to try to auction off the rights to name their unborn children.
You may not want to use some of these strategies to make extra money, and that is okay. Only a rare, adventurous individual would be willing to be a walking billboard for a company or give up the rights to name their own child. However, the point is to think outside the box and consider selling things that you had previously not thought worth selling. Do so, and maybe you can join the list of the strangest things sold on eBay.
