Well, I’m originally from Wells, Maine, but there is a made up (don’t tell anyone) story about me on my other shop page about where I came from and that’s the one I use. 🙂
I have jewelry and accessories in my shop and I currently working on some fiber art to add. It’s not there now because I’m an art student at UMaine and it’s terribly time consuming, as is felting. Unfortunately there’s not much room for felting right now.
My shop name: When I was starting the line for this shop, I already had one other Etsy shop. I was opening RoseyFinch so I could have a place for my nicer, more high end items. I was struggling to find a new name because I needed it to be original and also to fit well with my first shop, BlueSky. I fretted over the new name for days. I wandered around the house, thinking out loud, being highly distressed, and annoying my boyfriend. Finally one night as I was lying in bed, all upset because I still didn’t have a name, it suddenly just popped into my head. RoseyFinch. I proceeded to wake my poor boyfriend up and tell him the great news. The next day, I opened my shop!
New plans- My problem right now is my sort of multi-dimensional personality. One day I feel like making really fancy things because I’ve been daydreaming about getting dressed up and going to see a play or something. Then the next day I’m feeling very rustic. Maybe because I’ve been cooking from scratch or playing in my garden. I know I need to separate these fancy and rustic things somehow so my shop doesn’t look like the designer must have ADD.
Currently, BlueSky is geared toward the college set, because that’s where I’m at in my own life. It’s a little indie, a little hipster, and a little formal for those rare occasions. Eventually that will phase out and it will be a place for my more rustic looking creations, like those with earthy toned gemstones and fiber. Then for RoseyFinch I will be free to focus on those days when I feel like making something really sparkly.

My inspiration comes from the world around me, and my daydreams. Sometimes I’ll see someone walking around who just looks beautiful. Not necessarily their face or hair or clothes, but the colors they have on. Before I ordered my holiday supplies I saw a girl walking around campus dressed in such beautiful winter colors, and suddenly I knew what I wanted in the next few weeks. Sometimes my inspiration comes from movies with particularly stunning costumes. I also read Etsy’s merchandising reports and that always gives me some ideas for colors and materials.
The things I enjoy making most are the pieces with semi-precious gems. I think there are rocks that are under appreciated. Everyone wants shiny, sparkly rocks, but earthy stones like agate are beautiful too! I love how you can pull a rock from the earth, dust it off, shine it up, and wear it. It’s an amazing process.
In my spare time, I like to study gemology so I know where all of my rocks come from. I also like to be able to answer any and all questions thrown my way by customers or friends.
For Maine Residents- I will be at the Lucid Stage Craft Show on Baxter Blvd on December 11-12! If anyone is in that area, they should come say hi because I absolutely adore meeting new people!
Also my favorite show is Bonanza, which is my favorite fun fact about myself. 😛
