Where are you from? and a little bit about you
I live in New York City and have been a photographer for over twenty five years. About fifteen years ago I developed severe allergies to photo chemicals which meant I could no longer print my own work in a darkroom. This was prior to digital photography. I was shooting film and I knew from experience that if I couldn’t print my negatives myself, my work would not look the way I wanted it to look. I decided to go back to school. My two loves were art and animals. It was a toss up whether to pursue a career working with animals or to stay in the arts. I chose to get a degree in art history. But I missed being a photographer! Fortunately, digital cameras and ink jet printers have allowed me to return to photography and to be able to create the images I want to create. And I get to work with animals as I frequently photograph my cats.
What items do you carry in your shop?
Right now I sell prints and note cards from my original art work. I create two very different bodies of work. My cat images are colorful, often whimsical designs created in Photoshop from photographs I have taken of my three cats. My other work is more traditional photography such as the New York skyline photographs and note cards in my Etsy shop. At the moment, much of my Etsy shop features my cat images but I plan on adding more of my photographs.
How did you decide on your shop name?
I don’t get any points for creativity here! I decided to use my name—Deborah Julian—as I could not come up with a shop name that would reflect my two bodies of work—my photographs and my cat images.
Do you have a blog, twitter, or facebook page?
So far, just a facebook page:

What items in your shop do you most enjoy making and why?
I really love creating the cat images. My cats are very playful, curious animals. I enjoy watching them and taking pictures of them when they are doing something cute or interesting. I then use these photos to create an image that is not only a good design but which also reflects my cats’ spirit. But I also love wandering around the city, photographing interesting scenes of city life. I guess I am an observer by nature which is why I am attracted to photography.
Anything else you would like us to know?
I plan on adding many new items to my shop in the very near future so please stop by again!
I love note cards. What a wonderful thing to always have on hand to send to the people we love in times of need. I was so happy to be able to review the New York Skyline note cards from Deborah’s shop. Deborah has taken beautiful photos of Cats and Photo’s of New York City. I chose to review New York City at Sunrise. When I opened the package I pulled out the note cards and I also had 2 book marks with Deborah’s shop information. I thought the bookmarks were a very creative idea and I know that they will stick in my mind and be put to use better than just the normal business card. They are colorful and have one of her cat prints as the background. Coincidentally it is the same as logo that is at the top of her shop. Very thoughtful!
The cards came packaged very neatly and tied with a little yellow ribbon. I pulled out a note card and the photo was just breath taking. I myself have never been to New York but I have always wanted to go. I was excited to get one of these beautiful cards out in the mail to my cousin Brandy (Giveaway Blogdom) to see what her thoughts were.
What a great picture. I like how sturdy these cards are and loved receiving it in the mail. I like that it has a unique feel to it and it’s not the same as every other card. You can tell it was made with special touches in mind. The pictures are wonderfully done and make you feel like you are really in New York. I felt very special receiving this card and was surprised about the quality that has gone in to it.
