Nature inspired soap Review and Giveaway

Posted on April 14, 2010 / By: Krista 159 Comments

There is nothing more relaxing than a nice hot bubble bath! Add in some wonderful smelling soap and I’m in heaven!

Christopher and Lauren Pickens own Whimsywares Etsy shop and are graciously offering 3 of my readers a chance to win their choice of handcrafted soap $4-$5.50 value!!!

Getting to know Christopher and Lauren (Whimsywares)

Where are you from? and a little bit about you

Our names are Christopher and Lauren Pickens. We have been married for almost a year and share an apartment with our persnickety Tortishell kitty and Dumbo eared rat. We live in Little Rock, Arkansas but have dreams of one day moving to Europe. We love traveling and experiencing new things. We pour this exploratory passion into our craft by always endeavoring to try something new and creative!

How did you decide on your shop name?

We wanted something that exuded a feeling of laid-back whimsy and mystery — sort of like falling into a fairy tale book! We also wanted a name that was somewhat non-specific since we dabble in several different crafts. “Whimsy Wares” had a nice ring to it.

What items do you carry in your shop?

We carry handcrafted soaps, jewelry, ceramics, and whimsical art

What inspires you to make the items in your shop?

All of our items are nature-inspired with a Celtic flare. Our items are inspired by the goal of creating something that can add a touch of beauty to your life — a relaxing bath with a bar of decadent smelling soap, a day out adorned with an interesting piece of jewelry, thought provoking art — you get the picture!

Do you have anything new you plan on adding to your store?
We are going to focus more on our bath products. We have just whipped up a batch of Lavender scented spa bath salts and are also adding a line of bath fizzies starting with our “His” and “Her” Pearberry bath fizzies. We are working on adding Sugar Scrub cubes. We have new scents coming just in time for Spring/Summer as well. And finally, we have just posted new Whimsy Wares gift certificates — great gift idea!

Do you have a blog, twitter, or facebook page?

Certainly! Find us at…..
Facebook fan page: www.facebook.com/whimsywares
twitter: www.twitter.com/whimsywares

How do you come up with scents for your soaps?

We ask ourselves, “what would make our mouth water?” We are always on the search for something new and enticing. We actually get a lot of inspiration from foods/drinks. The senses of taste and smell are very closely linked after all. So, although it’s probably a bad idea to actually eat the soap, if part of you kinda wants to, then it’ll most likely make a great soap scent!

What is your favorite Soap Scent?

We tend to lean towards the fruity scents! We love our Asian Plum and Under the Stars scents. The Asian Plum is a great blend of Blend of Plum, Orchid, Daffodil, Jasmine, Musk and Vanilla. It has a nice floral blend but the richness of the Plum adds a nice depth to it. We’re really addicted to the Under the Stars scent as well. The Grape and Plum are such deep juicy flavors which are beautifully tempered by the lightness of the Peach and Citrus. The musk rounds it out with a touch of earthiness.

Anything else you would like us to know?

That about sums us up! We would love for you to visit our shop 😉

My Thoughts

I knew exactly what was in the envelope when I pulled it out of the mail box. It was so exciting because I had no clue what scent I was getting in the mail! I opened the envelope and knew instantly that it was plum! The smell was wonderful! When I got home I placed it in the shower and went to cook some dinner! Knowing I was going to be able to try my wonderful soap before bed time.

When I finally got my daughter tucked into bed I stepped into the bathroom to try my new soap and I found that it had already been used (Which I will get to later) I was NOT happy by this! But, I used it anyway and I LOVED it! The bar of soap has brown sugar in it for a natural and gentle exfoliation. After I used the exfoliation side I turned it around and used the side that had the Shea Butter. It was so silky smooth. I felt very relaxed and clean!

Now on to why it was used –aka- My Husbands Thoughts

My husband is a mechanic. For that simple reason I don’t think I have ever seen him without grease on his hands and arms. He found my bar of soap when he got home from work and decided that the beautiful Celtic pattern on the top would be perfect to get the grease off. Well he was right! He loved my soap just as much as I did! He said that the Brown Sugar was the perfect ingredient to help scrub the stubborn black grease!  Not exactly what I had in mind for such a beautiful bar of soap. But, I’m glad we now have found something that works so well!

Ashtyon’s Thoughts (my daughter)

She wanted to use the soap as well and she told me that when she smelled it she felt like a Princess. She walked around the house for about an hour after her bath with her hands at her nose because she wanted to smell the pretty perfume of the soap on her skin!

Needless to say this soap is a big hit in my house and I know that I will be purchasing more of it in the near future!

UPDATE FROM WHIMSYWARES : We are adding a brand new line of bath jellies next week! Bath jelly is a fun new brand of soap that feels like jello but cleans like mad! We’re also excited about our sugar scrub cubes that we will be introducing next week as well.

Now on to the Giveaway!
