I am a huge Jane Austen fan! So you can imagine my excitement when I got the chance to review Jane Austen by Peter Leithart. The day it showed up in the mail I tore open the package, brewed a pot of hot tea, and settled down in my rocking chair for a full night of reading. I opened up to the first page and entered a world of pure confusion. I had a hard time understanding most of this book. In the first few chapters the Author had many different dates placed into one paragraph and it was hard to distinguish want time period he was talking about. The Author also told about most of the people in Jane’s life in the first few chapters and I kept getting all of the same first named people mixed up. After a few chapters I got used to the Author’s style of writing and it started making more sense to me and I did learn a lot of interesting facts about Jane’s life. I learned about her family, friends, and why and when she wrote most of her novels. It also tells you about letters and such that she wrote throughout her life that I had never known of before. This was the first book that I have ever read about her life and I was hoping that it might take me from her childhood on instead of jumping around so much. I am glad for the few interesting tid bits I got out of the book but the Author juts left me wanting to learn more about her life and I know that I can’t find that in this book. Thank you to Thomas Nelson for providing me with a copy of this book for my review!
