Pretzel Turkeys – Perfect Thanksgiving Treat!

As most of you know I have chosen to home school this year. One of the reasons that I have chosen to home school is so that I can have fun coming up with creative ways to learn. I love making fun treats with the kids. Especially when it comes to holiday treats. Recently we were able to make some fun Pretzel Turkeys! These were not only great tasting treats but they were also easy enough for the older and younger kids!

Pretzel Turkeys

Ingredients

Pretzels

Candy Corn

Rolos

Reese’s Pieces

Sugar Pearls

Instructions

Preheat oven to 300˚.

in process 1

On a sheet tray lined with parchment paper lay your pretzels with the salted side down with the double rounded end pointed toward you.

in process 2

Place three candy corns on the single round end. I start with the middle one and just place the tip under the middle of pretzel and the top part resting on the top of the pretzel. Place the other two candy corns along the angled part of the pretzel so that they are touching the first candy corn.

in process 3

Gently lay an unwrapped Rolo on top of the candy corns.

Place the tray in the oven until the Rolos are soft, 5-6 minutes.

You can push the Rolos down one of two ways.

You can use the back of a spoon to press them gently down to make sure they contact the pretzels and the candy corns. The spoon is more direct and you are sure the Rolo is set. But it tends to deform the Rolo more.

You can also do it while you apply the eyes and beaks. This way leaves the Rolo shape a little more but if you aren’t careful you get chocolate on your fingers that gets on the eyes and beaks.

in process 4

Apply 2 pearls for the eyes and half of a Reese’s pieces for the beak. Take a toothpick and dab it in the melted chocolate at the edge of the Rolo and dab it in the center of the pearl to finish the eye.

Let cool at least 30 minutes before moving to a serving tray or airtight container.

  1. That is soo cute! What a great idea I bet my kids would love these! Def saving this for use this Thanksgiving!

  2. Very clever. You could use a small dowel or kitchen gadget with a small rounded handle to carefully push the melted Rollo down. Kitchen tweezers (ONLY use them for food items) will eliminate chocolate on your fingers when applying the eyes and mouth.

Great idea for kids and us older kids who enjoy all this.

  3. Great idea!!! I was so excited to make them with my 9 1/2 yr old and 3 year old.
First I have to say it was interesting. This is what I learned, first I believe it is a regular size pretzel not the mini pretzels I usually buy. Cause it took a lot of work to get candy corn on the pretzel but happy to say we worked hard and made it happen!!! 🙂 next is when we put them in the oven for 5 min at 300 degrees. Well that sucked cause they melted!!! So then I had a 2nd cookie sheet to put in and I thought ok let’s try 2 minutes. Well same thing they melted!! 🙁 I should of just stood there and watched them but I was busy trying to get the stuff on them before they got really hard. Hahahaha they would of been fine to wait a few minutes.
So all in all it was fun but not as nice as I would like them to be, but I would totally take my advice for the next time and try it again!!!! 🙂

  4. I used mini pretzels and that was a bust, at first. I tried waiting to put the candy corn on until after the Rolo was soft, and it worked like a charm. I just pressed the candy corn into the top and they were cute as a button!

  5. These worked out great for me! So cute and easy. After reading prior comments, I decided to lower the temp for fear of melting them. I warmed them 4 minutes in a 275 degree oven, and inserted candy corn after warming.

  6. Wow that was unusual. I just wrote an really long comment but after I clicked submit my comment didn’t
appear. Grrrr… well I’m not writing all that over again. Regardless, just wanted to say fantastic blog!

  7. These are so cute in the picture but I followed the directions to a Tom Turkey T and the rolos and candy corns melted into turkey blobs. Krista, please revise the temp and/or length of time in the oven.
