Growing up I never stopped to think about everything my Mom did for me. It honestly was not until I had my daughter that I realized just how wonderful I had it as a child.

My Mom had be when she was 19. My friends always loved her because she was so “young and cool” and because of that she was always my best friend. Growing up my Mom gave me the world. She would sign me up for everything and anything that I took an interest in. She spent my younger years taking me to ballet, jazz, soccer, flag football and piano lessons. She was at every concert, game and recital that I ever had as a young child.

As I got older she worked hard and found a way to purchase a flute for me as well as finding ways to pay for all my school trips for Band and Choir. She would always make each of us kids feel very special on our birthday’s by taking us out of school and letting us choose a special place to eat lunch. This is a tradition that she still does with us kids. I know that even though I am 29 I will get a birthday lunch with my Mom every year!

Another thing I will always remember about my Mom is just how crafty she is. I can remember her sitting at the sewing machines making me cute dresses, hand making my hair bows, and baking delicious breads and cookies.

My Mom also is an amazing artist who can sketch just about anything, and she has a passion for photography. Every year she would take us kids out some place nice and take photo after photo of us kids. In fact as I was writing up this article I was searching for photo’s of my Mom and I together….it was not easy since most of the pictures of my childhood were photo’s that she took of us kids and not many of her WITH us.

Looking back I realize that my Mom always put my brothers and I first in everything. I remember that if we ever needed for anything she would purchase it right away….but if she was in need she would put it off. Us kids and my Dad always came first in her eyes. She just wanted us to be happy. She also taught me to stick to a budget. I can remember my Mom making out a grocery list once a week. She would sit and plan the things that we needed and what meals we would eat throughout the week. It is amazing to me how well she could stick to that  budget.

I am so blessed to have my Mom in my life. After 29 years she is still my best friend and we enjoy doing lots of fun things together. I guess if I had to name the best thing my Mom ever taught me it would be how to love. I love you Momma!

  1. My mother taught me that it is ok to make mistakes, you make them your whole life, so don’t constantly beat yourself up about it.

Thanks for having this giveaway! 🙂

  2. My mother taught me to always be independent and not to rely on a man for anything. I was taught how to cook and change a tire. It was very important to her that we only ever had relationships based on love and not need.

  3. My mother taught me that if I’m in a situation with people I don’t know and I don’t know what to say, always talk about the other person. People love to talk about themselves!

  4. Always think before you speak. And she also says that Everything happens for a reason and everything will work out the way it is supposed to.
