My Weekend at the Fair!

Being raised in a small town has its advantages. Everyone knows your name and EVERYTHING about you. You don’t feel the need to lock your doors, every one is friendly, we all help each other out when needed, and we all know how to have a great time.

This past weekend we had our County Fair. Growing up fair was always a big deal. My Aunt was the head of the fair and every one in my family spent every day helping out and doing our part to make sure it was a success…not to mention the weeks leading up to fair were filled with canning, baking, crafting and gardening so that we could have awesome projects we could enter to be judged! It is awesome!

Another great thing about the County Fair is the events! Now that I am grown I do not live in the same small town that I grew up in but where I live still has that great small town feel. During the fair this past weekend we went to the Demolishin Derby. Some of you might be wondering what that is exactly…..well ……basically it is when you take a few cars and have them drive around in mud and crash into each other until there is only one left running!

Okay, okay, now that might sound crazy to some of you but really it is a kick to watch! Plus the kids LOVE watching cars wreck into each other!

For the Derby the goal is to be the last car running. If your car gets stuck or is no longer moving then they will hold up a yellow flag to surrender. The other drivers are no longer allowed to hit the car’s with the yellow flags. Also there is NO hitting the drivers side door. That will get you removed from theĀ competition. These cars are also built with safety in mind with roll bars etc…

Half way through the Demolition Derby they brought out the Transformers which had the kids going CRAZY! They were so excited to see them ‘battle’ each other!

** I am SORRY for the video quality! I am horrible at video!

  1. Ah! I LOVE going to fairs! When I was a kid we’d go to the LaPorte County Fair in IN every summer (or nearly every summer) and it was so much fun! I loved the demolition derby (but there were NEVER transformers!) and all the rides. And the food… elephant ears, funnel cake, hot dogs, cotton candy… yum! Haha I’m getting a sugar buzz thinking about it all! Thanks for sharing the videos… now I’m off to see when the next LaPorte County Fair is, and if I can make it šŸ˜‰

  2. The Demolition Dery is too intense for my likes, but we are HUGE fans of the fair. We have several large fairs, here in Southern California, to drive to- and some great music acts this year!

  3. I’m totally a fan of country fairs and such. In the Northeast they have something called The Big E, which is a HUGE state fair for 5 Northeastern states. There is everything imaginable there to do and see and I love getting friends together and going. This sounds like a lot of fun. – Katy

  4. I remember when My own local fair use to be small Now that the town has gone through 2 big booms the fair is big and they charge just to attend.

  5. I have never been to a demolishin derby before but my little cousin has and he LOVED IT! My parents had taken him and they said it was too loud. I think it would be fun to watch!

  6. How cool! We have a local county fair as well but we don’t have anything quite that cool. My son would love the transformers!!

  7. Love to attend Country Fairs. This one looks better than the ones I’ve attended. YOur pictures are great!!!

  8. It looks like you had a lot of fun. I love going to the Derby at our fair and just going to eat an elephant ear. My daughter was tall enough to ride the kiddie rides this year so that was fun too!
