Fried Green Tomatillos

 

             Ingredients

  • 2 eggs lightly beaten
  • 1/3 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 teaspoon mixes seasoning/herbs of choice (I used basil and rosemary)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • ground black pepper to taste
  • 8 tomatillos, husked and sliced 1/4 inch thick
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Directions

  1. Place eggs in a shallow bowl and wisk together.
  2. Mix cornmeal, herbs, salt and pepper together in shallow separate bowl.
  3. Heat 2 tbs oil in skillet over medium heat.
  4. Dip tomatillo slices in egg whites, then  into dry cornmeal mix remember to coat both sides.
  5. Fry tomatillo slices 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
  6. Serve and enjoy!

  1. I’ve never tried fried green tomatoes. I like tomatoes enough but the rest of my family doesn’t so I don’t buy them often.

    1. I use these as a side dish with most any meal! My daughter loves to dip them in Ranch Dressing as she dips EVERYTHING in ranch and my hubby and I like to use Jalapeno Pepper Jelly or just eat them plain! 🙂
