I’m a wife, mother of three and grandmother of six. I became a breaddough artist in 1986 after Cabbage Patch became too much competition to thedoll business that I had established. I’ve sold my work at craft showsthroughout the Northeast over a 27 year period, thoroughly enjoying theexperiences and people that I’ve met along the way. I have many memoriesof children breaking away from their parents walking past my booth to run overto smell the bread dough roses displayed in a basket!
My shops display a wide variety of my work including bread dough roses andframed bread dough roses. I also do cold porcelain jewelry which includesrings, earrings, bracelets, pins, necklaces, sets barrettes, wedding caketoppers, bouquets and favors.
I’m not sure which site you saw my work on………On Etsy, I’m Doughrosesbecause Rosepetals was already taken when I signed on. On Artfire andZibbet, I’m Rosepetals which is the actual name of my business, based on mydevelopment of a large bread dough rose years ago. The originalinstructions that I was following to make roses at the time said that youcouldn’t work much larger than the size of a dime because the dough was sosoft. It took me three years of trial and error but I eventually made atwo inch rose that actually looked like a rose and then went on to make a threeinch rose to sit on a shelf.
I plan on adding more wedding items to my shops along with wreaths and floralarrangements. Before the holidays, I’ll have a line of salt doughornaments to show as well.
I don’t have time to blog or twitter but will work on a Facebook fan page inthe future.
My garden is my inspiration for making new items along with the catalogs thatcome out each spring. Occasionally, a customers’ request will challenge anew design.
I enjoy working with cold porcelain over bread dough because I can do smallerand more detailed work. For that reason, the jewelry has more appeal forme.
I’ve had many people say to me over the years that they wished that they werecreative. I believe that everyone is creative….it just takes patience, time and experimentation to find that thing that one really loves to do andthen practice to make it perfect!
